India Recalls Diplomats’ Families From Bangladesh As Precautionary Security Measure

Raga News Zone | New Delhi

India has decided to bring back the families of its diplomats stationed in Bangladesh amid growing security concerns, government sources said. The move is being described as a preventive and precautionary step, taken after a review of the evolving situation in the neighbouring country.

According to officials, the decision covers family members of Indian diplomats and staff posted at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and other Indian missions across Bangladesh. Diplomatic work and official engagement, however, will continue uninterrupted, and there is no change in India’s diplomatic presence or bilateral outreach.

Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that the recall of families should not be interpreted as a downgrade in India-Bangladesh relations. They stressed that such steps are part of standard security protocols followed by countries worldwide when potential risks are assessed.

Indian authorities are closely monitoring developments on the ground and remain in touch with Bangladeshi officials regarding the safety and security of diplomatic personnel. Bangladesh, officials said, has assured full cooperation and support to ensure the protection of foreign missions.

India and Bangladesh share strong ties across multiple sectors, including trade, connectivity, security cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Officials reiterated that communication between the two governments remains robust and constructive.

The situation will continue to be reviewed, and further decisions will be taken based on security assessments. For now, the government emphasised that the move is temporary in nature and reflects India’s priority to safeguard its citizens and officials posted abroad.
