The father of Shraddha Walkar, the 27-year-old woman who was killed in May allegedly by her live-in partner, has accused the Mumbai police of having failed to act on his complaint swiftly, adding, however, that he approached police only in September. Speaking to the media for the first time since his daughter’s murder came to light in November, Vikas Walkar (59) said on Friday afternoon, “The Vasai and Nalasopara police showed a little negligence on my complaint. May be my daughter would have been alive or I would have got more proof in the murder case against Aaftab (Poonawala). Their negligence needs to be investigated. Further, my daughter had also complained to the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar police that Aaftab used to beat her and threatened to murder her, but no action was taken. I want this to be investigated as well.” The Vasai, Nalasopara, Tulinj and Manikpur police stations come under the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar Commissionerate. oonawala, who had been her live-in partner since 2019, allegedly killed her at a Delhi flat and chopped her body into 35 pieces. He then took several days to dispose of her body in jungle-like areas on the national capital’s outskirts. Walkar said he approached the MBVV police on September 23 but his complaint was accepted only in the first week of October. He demanded capital punishment for Poonawala and wanted police to investigate if Poonawala’s parents had any role in the murder.
