Pressure Tactics Won’t Succeed,’ Parag Khanna Says India Will Chart Its Own Path
Raga News Zone | New Delhi
Geopolitical strategist and author Parag Khanna has asserted that external pressure from the United States will not influence India’s strategic decisions, stating that New Delhi has consistently demonstrated its ability to act independently on the global stage.
Speaking on India’s evolving foreign policy posture, Khanna said attempts to push or corner India through diplomatic or strategic pressure are unlikely to work. He emphasised that India today operates with a strong sense of sovereignty, guided by its national interests rather than alignment-driven compulsions.
Khanna pointed out that India’s growing economic strength, demographic advantage, and strategic location have given it greater confidence in dealing with major global powers. According to him, India engages with the US, Russia, Europe, and other blocs based on issue-based cooperation rather than ideological loyalty.
Referring to recent global developments, Khanna noted that India has shown a consistent pattern of maintaining strategic autonomy, even when faced with pressure on matters such as trade, defence partnerships, and geopolitical conflicts. This, he said, reflects a mature and pragmatic foreign policy approach.
He also highlighted that India’s multipolar worldview aligns with the broader global shift away from dominance by any single power. In such a scenario, Khanna argued, countries like India are increasingly shaping outcomes rather than merely responding to them.
Political observers say Khanna’s remarks echo a growing international recognition of India’s independent stance in world affairs. As global power equations continue to evolve, India’s ability to resist pressure while maintaining strong partnerships is seen as a defining feature of its diplomatic strategy.
