Raga News Zone | International Desk

Amid ongoing anti-government protests in Iran, rumours circulated online claiming that Indian nationals had been arrested during demonstrations against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, Iranian officials have denied these reports, calling them false.

The protests, which began in late December 2025, have spread across several cities, with demonstrators expressing grievances over economic challenges and government policies. Authorities in Iran have responded with heavy security measures, leading to a large number of arrests and reported casualties.

In response to the online claims, Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, clarified that no Indian citizens were detained. He urged the public and media to rely only on verified and credible sources for news regarding developments in Iran.

Indian student associations in Iran, including major medical student groups, have confirmed that Indian nationals remain safe, providing reassurance to families back home. The Indian Embassy in Tehran continues to monitor the situation closely and maintain communication with citizens residing in the country.

This incident highlights the challenges of verifying information during protests and the importance of relying on official statements to prevent misinformation.
