Indian Envoy Accuses Canada of Inaction on Terrorism for Four Decades
Raga News Zone | New Delhi
India’s top diplomatic representative in Canada has strongly criticised the Canadian government, accusing it of failing to take firm action against terrorism and extremist activities for over four decades. The remarks reflect India’s growing frustration over what it describes as continued inaction despite repeated concerns being raised at diplomatic levels.
Speaking at a public interaction, the Indian envoy said India has consistently shared inputs and evidence related to individuals and groups operating from Canadian soil who are allegedly involved in promoting violence and separatist agendas against India. However, he claimed that Canada has not taken effective steps to curb such activities.
India’s Long-Standing Concerns
The envoy stated that India’s concerns date back nearly 40 years and are not recent developments. He emphasised that terrorism cannot be justified under the cover of free speech or democratic rights. “Freedom of expression does not give anyone the right to incite violence or support terrorism,” the envoy said.
India has repeatedly urged Canada to ensure that its territory is not misused for activities that threaten India’s sovereignty and internal security.
Diplomatic Strain Between India and Canada
The comments come at a time when bilateral relations between India and Canada remain tense. Both countries have exchanged sharp diplomatic statements in recent months, particularly over issues related to security, law enforcement cooperation, and extremist activities.
While Canada has maintained that it follows due legal process and the rule of law, India has stressed that visible and concrete action is necessary to rebuild trust.
Call for Global Responsibility
The Indian envoy also highlighted that terrorism is a global challenge and requires cooperation among nations. He warned that ignoring extremist elements can have wider international consequences and undermine global security.
Experts say the remarks underline India’s firm stance on counter-terrorism and its expectation that partner countries take responsibility for preventing the misuse of their territories.
The Road Ahead
India has indicated that it will continue to raise the issue through diplomatic channels and international forums. Officials reiterated that meaningful action against terrorism is essential for improving bilateral relations and ensuring long-term regional and global stability.
