Leaders and workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) held a protest in Ludhiana on Friday against former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi, expressing strong opposition over her alleged controversial remarks.
The protest took place at a prominent location in the city, where Akali Dal supporters raised slogans and accused Atishi of hurting religious sentiments. Party leaders claimed that her statement was disrespectful and unacceptable, particularly to the Sikh community.
Addressing the gathering, Akali Dal leaders demanded a public apology from Atishi and warned that such remarks should not be repeated in the future. They said that religious beliefs and sentiments must be treated with respect and should not be used for political narratives.
The protesters also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party, alleging that its leadership has failed to address the issue responsibly. They urged authorities to take note of public anger and ensure that harmony is maintained in the state.
Police personnel were deployed at the protest site to prevent any law-and-order issues. The demonstration remained peaceful and concluded without any untoward incident.
The controversy has triggered political reactions across Punjab, with opposition parties stepping up criticism and demanding accountability. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has maintained that Atishi did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments.
