Raga News Zone | Crime

A major breakthrough has been achieved in the shocking murder of Anita Chaudhary, Jhansi’s first woman auto-rickshaw driver. The prime suspect, identified as her former partner Mukesh Jha, has been arrested after a dramatic police operation following four days on the run.

Anita, 45, a trailblazer in a male-dominated profession, was found dead on 5 January near her overturned auto on Station–Civil Lines Road. Initially assumed to be a road accident, the autopsy later revealed she had been shot in the head, confirming a premeditated murder.

Police investigations suggest that the motive was personal. Anita and Jha had reportedly ended their relationship several months ago, and authorities believe feelings of revenge led to this violent act. Investigators also noted the disappearance of Anita’s mobile phone and jewellery from the scene, which initially complicated the probe.

After a massive manhunt, Jha was located near Betwa River. During a police attempt to apprehend him, a brief exchange of gunfire occurred, and he was taken into custody and hospitalized for treatment. Firearms and cartridges were recovered from his possession.

The case has caused widespread outrage, highlighting the risks faced by women breaking societal barriers. Anita’s courage in pursuing her profession as Jhansi’s first female auto-rickshaw driver made her a symbol of empowerment, and her tragic death has sparked debates on women’s safety and justice.

Authorities have confirmed that further interrogation and legal proceedings will follow once the suspect recovers. The police remain committed to ensuring swift justice in this high-profile case.
