Visakhapatnam: The Indian women’s cricket team made a strong start to the T20I series against Sri Lanka Women, registering a comfortable eight-wicket victory in the first match.
Batting first, Sri Lanka Women scored 121 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. India’s bowlers kept things tight, not allowing the Sri Lankan batters to build big partnerships. The disciplined bowling effort helped India restrict the visitors to a modest total.
In reply, India Women chased the target easily, reaching the required runs in just 14.4 overs. The highlight of the match was a brilliant batting performance by Jemimah Rodrigues, who remained unbeaten on 69 runs. Her calm and confident innings guided India to a smooth win.
Senior batter Smriti Mandhana also played a key role at the top of the order and achieved an important milestone during the match, becoming the first Indian woman cricketer to complete 4,000 runs in T20 international cricket.
Thanks to this dominant performance, India Women have taken a 1–0 lead in the five-match T20I series. The victory reflects India’s strong form and depth in both batting and bowling.
The next match of the series is expected to be closely watched as Sri Lanka Women look to bounce back, while India aim to extend their lead.
