After communal riots erupted in Siwan on September 8, Bihar police arrested an 8-year-old boy named Rizwan. The minor was arrested alongside his 70-year-old grandfather, who had recently undergone two surgeries. Rizwan's family claims that Bihar police are demanding money in exchange for his release. Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the AIMIM, slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over Rizwan's arrest. Meanwhile, several videos on social media show a saffron-clad mob brandishing swords and sticks and chanting anti-Islamic slogans outside a mosque.
